Background
'The Greater Nottingham Cancer Forum (GNCF) was set up by a group of patients, carers and health and social care professionals in March 1999. Its aim was to become the local voice for cancer patients, thereby improving care at all levels, and influencing local service developments. Founder members of the group will describe some of the difficulties encountered in getting their voice heard by some NHS professionals. However, through perseverance and staying power the Forum is now working effectively in partnership with local NHS organisations and its achievements over the last 5-6 years have been documented in several reports.
The Patient Voice has become an integral part of the development of NHS services and this has been endorsed by a number of government reports including Calman-Hine Report (1995), NHS Cancer Plan (2000) and the Cancer Reform Strategy (2007)
What Can the Forum do for me?
If you are a patient who has or has had cancer, or the carer of someone with cancer then this group is there to represent your views.
If you would like to comment on any of your experiences of cancer services as a user of services in Nottingham, then you can speak in confidence to one of the members of the group.
Open Day
The Forum held Open Days in 2007 and 2008 and are now looking for new ways to reach out to cancer patients and their carers.
